Questions To Ask Breeders

• Ask for proof of health testing. This can be OFA certificates, a link to the dog’s OFA page (example), or proof from veterinary records. Health tests to ask for:

  • Patella

  • Cardiac

  • Eyes (CAER)

  • DNA: NAD, PRA, von Willebrand’s, Factor VII

• How are the adult dogs housed and treated in the home?

• How are the puppies started on house training? Is a litterbox used?

• Do you provide a health guarantee and contract? What does the health guarantee entail?

These, in my opinion, are the most important and basic questions to ask your potential breeder.
